Technology
How is Bluechiip Enabled Technology different to RFID?
The Bluechiip device not only provides ID but also senses temperature and operates in harsh environments including liquid nitrogen temperatures. The ID in every Bluechiip device is physically hard-coded making it secure and immune to ionizing radiation.
While RFIDs have utility under normal conditions, they are typically not specified to operate at ultra low and cryogenic temperatures and rely on data written to memory which can be damaged by ionizing radiation or inadvertently overwritten.
How do Bluechiip devices operate at cryogenic temperatures?
Bluechiip devices are based on MEMS technology, which means they are mechanical devices. Physical microbeams, each with a unique frequency profile, are decoded by our readers to provide ID. Temperature changes are detected and recorded by the reader as the frequency profile shifts when the devices are exposed to different conditions.
Workflow
Does the system support barcodes and human readable identification?
Yes, the Bluechiip system supports multiple forms of ID. The Bluechiip Handheld Reader includes a barcode scanner enabling greater flexibility across existing sample workflows.
Can Bluechiip software provide a full audit trail log for valuable samples?
Yes, one of the major advantages of Bluechip’s solution is that you can have an entire chain of custody and identity for that particular sample- all while providing critical temperature data at each step in the process. Data is collected by readers and software and stored securely on a central database. This provides confidence that critical information for every sample can be captured and accounted for.
How do I continuously monitor temperature using Bluechiip products?
Bluechiip Enabled items can be continuously monitored outside of storage and during critical internal handling processes. Our award winning Bluechiip CryoBox Tracker™ is one example of how Bluechiip Technology can be configured to monitor temperature (read more in our Case Study)
What is Bluechiip Guided Retrieval and Storage?
By utilizing Bluechiip Enabled products, our advanced system ensures users can easily maintain an accurate record of their inventory down to each individual sample.
By knowing where available capacity is in your freezers and tanks, Bluechiip Readers and Software help guide you to the correct storage location and easily consolidate frozen samples.
Bluechiip Guided Retrieval works similarly to guide users to a sample’s location electronically to ensure you find the right sample, first time, every time.
I have existing inventory, can I take advantage of Bluechiip Enabled solutions?
Yes, Bluechiip’s advanced sample management system can be scaled to meet the specific needs of your workflow or project. Many of our users choose to adopt Bluechiip for use with a specific project or sample type to start and then choose to grow across other cold storage/sample management needs. Contact Bluechiip today to learn more about how we can configure a solution to meet your specific needs.
